There is a technique in typography that back in the days of hot metal type and letter press was more difficult to use because it was a mechanical process. Having been in this industry long enough and being young enough to remember the transitions in typography I personally have been using this technique for over Five Decades. Back before magic markers and computerized typography we specked type, used N spacing as a guide, did line and character counts and a myriad of calculations to get the results we wanted and when all else failed \u201c a razor blade, steel cork back ruler, rubber cement and opaque white could almost fix anything before it went to camera.<\/p>\n

Art production has gone through many changes; we no longer use many older methods. One thing hasn\u2019t changed no matter how they appear, is the gaps in spacing between certain letter combinations and the uncomfortable feeling you or the viewer gets when looking at the results.<\/p>\n

In an effort to bring this to the attention of my contemporaries or those new to our industry I decidedTo write a short piece on Kerning<\/a> the first thing I did was create the header art for this piece in Photoshop as vector art. After a bit of research I found a great article in WikipediA\u2026 This article is prepared so well I abandoned my text and attached it just click the link on kerning.<\/p>\n

The only other point I want to stress is when you prepare \u201cart that works<\/a>\u201d even the simplest piece of typography can work better and be more artistically pleasing if you decide \u201cTo Kern or Not to Kern<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n
